Sorgeix d'una proposta de Joaquim Gabarró. La idea directriu era estudiar una implementació probabilista del problema dels filòsofs de E. W. Dijkstra proposada per D. Lehmann i M. O. Rabin a "On the advantages of free choice: A symmetric and fully distributed solution to the dining philosophers problem", l'any 1981.  El projecte s'estructura en dues parts: la primera aprofundeix en estudis complementaris a la línia principal de treball (concretament s'han modelitzat les distribucions estadístiques que descriuen diferents aspectes de la durada dels bucles en entorns multiprocés);  la segona part la constitueix l'estudi de l'algorisme de Lehmann i Rabin.

   Joquim Gabarró proposed the research. The first main point was to study a probabilistic implementation of the Dining Philosophers problem of E. W. Dijkstra proposed by D. Lehmann and M. O. Rabin at " On the advantages of free choice: A symmetric and fully distributed solution to the dining philosophers problem", on 1981. The project is structurated in two parts: the first one is a deeper study of complementary features of the main theme (more precisely, we have modelled the statistical distributions describing different properties of  loops duration when running in multiprocess environments); the second one is the study of the Lehmann and Rabins's algorithm.
