I am currently a Ph.D. student (third year of ??) of the Artificial Intelligence program at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), working under a governmental grant at the Natural Language Processing Group, which is itself part of the LSI (Software) Department . I am currently engaged on the Spanish-government-funded Text-Mess project (Intelligent, Interactive and Multilingual Text Mining based on Human Language Technologies). I also participated in the European CHIL project (Computers in the Human Interaction Loop), closing in 2007.

At the moment, I am holder of a FPU scholarship (Formación de Profesorado Universitario - Training of University Professors) from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (MEC), starting April 2006 and (at most) until December 2009. Before that, I had enjoyed a similar FI scholarship (Formació d'Investigadors - Training of Researchers) from the Catalan government, for three months.

My research activities are in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), and, more specifically, Information Extraction (IE). I had also slightly dabbled in the area of Statistical Machine Translation previously. The topic of my (future) Ph.D. thesis will deal with the combination of Machine Learning methodologies in order to automatically extract time expressions (interchangeably, other types of token sequences) occurring in natural language documents. My thesis co-advisors are Mihai Surdeanu and Jordi Turmo.
