DesCOTS is decomposed into four subsystems implemented by the following tools:

QM is a tool for the construction of quality models 

EV is a tool for the evaluation of COTS components

SL is a tool for the definition of requirements in COTS selection projects

AD is a tool for the administration of the whole DesCOTS system.

 

 

 

| Functionalities |

 

DesCOTS-QM is a tool aimed to support the construction of quality models based on the quality standard. ISO/IEC 9126-1. It provides functionalities to:

  • Define quality models, based on the ISO/IEC 9126-1 quality standard: define the quality factors that conform a particular quality model; reuse these quality factors among different quality models; establish relationships among them; and define software metrics for their future evaluation.
  • Define requirement patterns.
  • Show permanently a window with the quality model under construction as a tree.
  • Construct the quality model by browsing this tree, and selecting the quality factor that the user wants to deal with.
  • Save the quality models in a repository organised as a taxonomy of domains grouped into categories. A quality model is stored on the scope (domain or category) for which it has been defined.

DesCOTS-EV is a tool that complements QM allowing to manage the evaluations of multiple products. These evaluations are done using quality models defined by means of the QM for the domain to which the products belong to. It provides functionalities to:

  • Manage catalogues of products. These products are related with the domains to which they belong to in the taxonomy of domains and categories.
  • Manage evaluations of the products using the quality models defined by means of QM for the domain to which the products belong to.

·  Client/Server communication done by means of the HTTP protocol.
