Stays at other universitiesUniversity Claud Bernard Lyon 1 (August 2004)Universidad de Granada (September 2000, December 2000, February 2001, July 2001, December 2001) Multidimensional modeling is the main characteristic of OLAP tools. It is an analysis technique that helps to understand data by considering it in a multidimensional space (also known as cube or hypercube). The dimensions of this space are the different points of view we are going to use to analyze data. During my stay at Universidad de Granada I studied existing multidimensional data models, and how representing semantics could be improved by using Object-Oriented (specifically UML) concepts.Technische Universität Darmstadt (August 99 - November 99) Multitable joins is an important topic when talking about relational data warehouse schemas. These use to be star schemas were the central fact table has to be joined with the surrounding dimension tables. Due to the size of the fact table it is not feasible to sort neither partition it. Therefore, successive nested loop joins have to be performed (if there is not indices). During my staiy at Technische Universität Darmstadt I studied algorithms to reduce the cost of the successive nested loops by pipelining the fact table through the dimension tables, which results in a reduction in the number of steps. In the best case, all the dimension tables can be placed in memory at the same time and only one step is needed, avoiding the intermediate storage in between steps.Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (July 97 - October 97) I was working in a project in the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (Chile) with an INTERCAMPUS grant.
I coursed my final year degree at the University of Bath (UK) as an ERASMUS student.
