Machine learning methods in cancer research
Five special sessions are organized by renowned scientists at ESANN 2008.

Dr. Alfredo Vellido from SOCO research group at the LSI department and Professor Paulo J. G. Lisboa from Liverpool John Moores University will chair the special session: Machine learning methods in cancer research.

Machine learning methods in cancer research
Neural Networks and Machine Learning methods in general are widely used in cancer research. Their acceptance among medical practitioners is in the increase, as their potential for medical decision support is gradually realized.

At ESANN 2008, we will also find other special sessions like: Computational intelligence in computer games, methodology and standards for data analysis with machine learning tool, neural networks for computational neuroscience, machine learning approaches and pattern recognition for spectral data.

It will be a unique opportunity to met scientist interested in artificial intelligence from all over the world.

ESANN 2008 will be held in Bruges, Belgium, from the 23rd to the 25th of April.

SOCO research group, as part of their project AIDTumour project, are also organizing an invited session for the KES international conference.

The conference will be held next September in Zagreb, Croatia.

"P versus NP" problem and the knowledge limits.
CosmoCaixaNext 6th of May will be able to attend to an interesting conference that is part of the Conferences Cycle "Les grans conjetures matemàtiques" carried out by CosmoCaixa.
Dr. Avi Wigderson, from the Institute of Advanced Studies de Princeton (USA) will talk about the problem "P versus NP".

The problem "P versus NP" is a mathematical and computational precise problem, especially attractive for its philosophical connotations and the impact that would cause its resolution. If P is equal to NP it will be possible to solve many mathematic and scientific challenges that humans have set out. On the other hand, if P is not equal to NP we can get an unconditional security in electronic interactions.

This is one of the six conferences that CosmoCaixa gives us this year in commemoration of 2000, the Mathematics Worldwide Year. Clay Institute gave seven prizes of one million dollars each to solve seven big mathematics conjectures known as The Milenium Problems, in 2000. During this cycle, the outstanding experts and communicators from all over the world will talk about: Music and prime numbers, the 3x+1 conjecture and mathematic limits, mathematics around Eolo and Neptuno: Navier-Stokes equations, fractal geometry from Mandelbrot group, "P versus NP" problem and knowledge limits and Poincare conjecture and geometry.
