Welcome to the LSI Newsletter first issue
An introduction to the aims and goals of this newsletter.
This is a first taste of what, little by little, will grow to become a resource of communication from and for the LSI community. LSI is more than just a department. Our community involves a diversity of people and institutions. They are all interested in knowing what do we do. And to know what they can do with us. We must reach out to contact them.
It has been very interesting to walk around LSI with our new science communicator, Irene Lapuente (ilapuente@lsi.upc.edu) in her first hectic days here, working to get this first Newsletter out and the new website up and running. I have learned many things just by looking at LSI from her experienced science and a communication perspective.
One learns, for example, that there are many things we could explain to each other just inside our department. New professors and researchers are settling in and established research groups are evolving towards new lines or research, for example. I have also seen that theory can be very practical and practical matters can generate a lot of good theory. One also realises that what we do at LSI can have an impact on the day to day of many people.
This diversity opens up many opportunities. In order to turn them into a reality we need to send a clear message about what we are doing. By communicating inside and around LSI we will be more visible to a wider public, including our future students and researchers. We will be able to get support from new companies and institutions that will have another way to appreciate the practical interest of our work, i.e., the knowledge we create at LSI.
"More LSI" will work to help this possibilities come true. We will usually get in contact with you to know what are you doing. However, if you want to get in contact with us for anything you may find interesting to you'll find us in lsi-comunicacio@lsi.upc.edu.
Please, consider "More LSI" your helping hand for getting your work better known.Ramon Sangüesa
